R A Engineering

This is my second review having used RA Engineering since I was a student here in Reading. I have used other garages around the country, but none have come up to the standard that they set here. In many places I have been diddled, but not here. Not ever. In one place in Edinburgh you would go in for a service and come out with someone else’s battery and wipers. But not here. Informed and honest. What relief.

I've been using R.A.Engineering since it started somewhere around 1980 and have always been treated well by them. Their expertise is second to none and I don't remember ever having to go back to them after they fixed something. They keep the cost of spare parts down by using their brains and are better than using a main dealer because they always know what they are doing. Perhaps that's why the Police in Reading go there to get their cars serviced. In over thirty years they've been straight and honest every time. I have been taking my cars to RA for at least 15 years. In that time they have done everything from routine servicing to engine replacement. I trust them completely. In my youth, I was handy with a spanner (I even rebuilt my own gearboxes), the team at RA has never once tried it on. They retain parts for inspection where failures are unusual, they do what they say and when they say they will do it. And very often they have advised me not to replace a part because it will last another year or more and a failure would not be catastrophic. I would recommend them without hesitation, and have done so many times. RA is that very rare beast: a totally honest garage, a proper family firm. And the Police use them. Above all, though, they can diagnose obscure faults with electronics that even the main dealer struggles with. Weird faults with one brand of fuel in a Vauxhall Carlton, an odd low speed behaviour with a Volvo, these guys really know their stuff. There are mechanics, and there are engineers. RA justify their name: they are engineers. And sometimes magicians.
