Should Volkswagen pay a goodwill contribution to my Polo 1.2 engine replacement?

I bought my 2011 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI in June 2016 and noticed this week that the oil level as been going down and the light came on. I took it to an independent Volkswagen specialist who told me that the engine needs replacing as it's burning oil through worn/defected piston rings. Cylinder one wet and cylinder four scored through cylinder bore. I have a full Volkswagen service history and have just had the six month warranty expired. My Polo only has 42,000 on the clock. Should Volkswagen pay for the engine replacement?
Worth taking up with Volkswagen. There have been problems with piston rings in four cylinder 1.2 TSI so VW should take some responsibility.
