What is the grinding noise when I put my foot down on the clutch?

I drive a 2003 Toyota Yaris. I've noticed a grinding noise when in traffic and when my foot is fully down on the clutch. I thought it had something to do with the breaks at first and have had them replaced. It goes away when I drive but every time I stop and put my foot down it comes back. What could it be and is it a big job to fix?
Probably the clutch release bearing eventually wearing out. Yes, involves separation of engine and transmission, so you might as well have a new clutch at the same time. Mr Clutch tends to be cheapest for this type of job, but make sure they replace the clutch release bearing as well as the clutch by making sure that specific request is on the paperwork. Or get a 2nd opinion as to what is causing the noise.
