Why is my Ford Mondeo failing to start?

I fitted a new starter motor in my 2004 Ford Mondeo TDCi and when I turn the ignition on the rev counter and speedo go all the way over and back. It then fails to start. I removed the starter motor and when connected to a battery it is fine. There is no switch live to the solenoid and the relay does not click.
If, as you say, there is no live to the starter solenoid then you need to check all the fuses (especially F29 which is 30amp) then check the starter motor relay (k4) i.e. feed to and from the relay.
