Why are replacement xenons so expensive?

I have a 2006 Scenic and I wondered if any other Renault xenon headlight would fit the car? I'm struggling to find a spare part and the cost of a new one is over £160 plus vat. Any suggestions?
That's the price of xenons. It's even more if the self-levelling system fails: £600 - £1000 a side. And, if shopping around for cheap xenons, be wary of fake bulbs: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/miscellaneous/2015-04/ha.../
