Are Honda CR-Vs known for terminal engine failures?

My wife has a 56-plate Honda CR-V with the CDTI engine. It has 56,000 miles on the clock and a main dealer service history. The last service was in February 2010. Yesterday it suffered a terminal failure as she was pulling away from some lights. The best guess is that a conrod snapped and punched a hole in the side of the crank case. The oil was last checked on 21 June and was fine. Is this a common fault with this engine and, given the car is relatively young, where do we stand with persuading Honda to sort it out at their expense?
No. Take the matter up with Honda via the dealer who sold and serviced the car.
