Our Volkswagen Fox requires cylinder head repairs - what should we do?

We bought our Volkswagen Fox used about nine months ago. It's a 2006 which has covered 35,000 miles, and the last two services were performed outside the Volkswagen network. Four weeks ago the engine management light came on. We took it to a Volkswagen dealer who still has it. They diagnosed cylinder head removal, saying it was a valve problem. This was done, although it took them three weeks. They called yesterday to say it was now not running properly. What should we do? The bill so far is £1000.
You have to pay the bill, don't you? Not Volkswagen's responsibility. You had it serviced elsewhere and that might have been responsible for the problem. You could take it up with whoever you entrusted the servicing to.
