When should I change the oil in my Focus ST?

I'm collecting my new Ford Focus ST this week (the petrol one) and like virtually all cars nowadays, there's no running-in service with the first oil change being scheduled for 12,500 miles or 12 months. As I intend to keep the car for at least five years, I wonder whether you think it's worth having an oil and filter change after 1000/1500 miles?
No, run it to 10,000 miles to help the oil rings bed in, then change the oil and filter. Vary the revs as much as possible, taking it up to 4500rpm occasionally during the first 1000 miles. Don't drive it gently. Don't sit at the same revs on a motorway for more than 15 minutes at a time. Keep varying the revs. After 1000 miles, drive normally, but still avoid sitting at constant revs.
