Skoda Superb using a lot of oil - is this right?

I have a Skoda Superb estate L&K with a 2.0-litre SI engine and I have just put a pint of oil in the engine after doing just 2800 miles. Is this normal or excessive? Also is it normal for tyres to slightly pancake when the vehicle is sitting for a week on level ground?
Standard problem with the engine in Volkswagens, Audis, Skodas and SEATs. This is not as bad as others have reported but could get a lot worse. If the tyres have flatspotted then the cold temperatures are probably too low. If filled with air, cold temperatures can be 5psi lower than temperatures after sustained running on a motorway. So always pressure your tyres cold, not hot.
