Should I have my Peugeot 3008's timing belt changed?

I have a 2008 Peugeot 308 S 1.6HDI 5-door hatchback. So far it has been an excellent car with no breakdowns. A few months ago I received a leaflet from the Peugeot main dealer in the area, Walkers of King's Lynn, which said that as my car should by now have covered 70,000 miles it was time to think about changing the timing belt. However, the car has only covered 55,000 miles, so it has some time to go yet. I rang Walkers and asked whether they advised changing the belt early, and I know you recommend an early belt change. I was told that the belt would not need changing for 10 years or 144,000 miles, so not to worry. Can this be true? It seems a very long time.
Reads like the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Someone who knows nothing has simply read some document somewhere that gives an unrealistically long life for the belt. But if he is prepared to unconditionally guarantee it, fine. An experienced mechanic would recommend five or six years, 60,000 or 70,000 miles, no longer.
