Disenfranchised

I have been looking at the web site for an independent car servicing organisation and see that you can have your vehicle serviced by them, as opposed to a main dealer, without any detriment to your warranty. Assuming the price and service is competitive what are the pros and cons of using these people? Are there any pitfalls to look out for?
Pros: Cheaper. Cons: You might lose your warranty because they might not use the correct oil or filters or other parts. You will lose all post warranty 'goodwill' from the manufacturer. You will miss any technical service updates that might have been carried out to your car during a dealer service. Your car will lose more value from not having a dealer service history than you will gain from the savings from the cheap service.
