"Shoddy service and shady practices - beware"

By Mr Robert Wood, 9 August 2018

DO NOT buy a used non Nissan Car from Westover Salisbury, I bought a 8 Year old Ford in February with 1 Years warranty, - today (5 months later) I had to pay £114 to get my car back from them after the Engine Malfunction light came on. I now find I also have to pay out an additional £75 for an Oil change, the car was supposed to be serviced when I collected it, - it wasn't. The excuse I have been given is 'I am not driving it enough.'

"Bad customer service"

I had a problem with the air conditioning, garage said they needed the car for a day. Took the vehicle to the garage the night before. I asked whether work would be covered under the warranty. Was told if the air conditioning system had failed with no stone damage then it would be covered under the warranty but if it had been damaged by a stone it wasn't their fault and therefore would not be covered. When questioning the garage about what the warranty covered and what it didn't, a female member of staff said "We care about our customers at Nissan". The conversation did get a bit heated and a gentleman stepped in to see what the problem was. He took us outside to see if he could see whether or not the air conditioning unit was damaged by a stone - he confirmed he couldn't see anything but would not definitely know until they had taken a proper look at the vehicle. I asked if the vehicle could be looked at quite early the following day as it may be needed for an appointment later, they said they would try. The car was left with them overnight. The following morning at 9.30am I had an email from the garage showing me the tread of my tyres - saying they were all fine. I replied saying that my car wasn't there for the tyres to be looked at it was in for air conditioning. A reply came back saying this was standard with Nissan. I then called them at 13.40 and left a message for someone to call me with an update. No call returned. I called them again at 2.30pm for an update. No call returned. Not having heard anything, I went to the garage arriving at approximately 4.50pm to find a mechanic driving my car who confirmed to me that the air conditioning unit was not stone damaged and was covered under the warranty. I then went into reception and was told by one of their customer service staff that my car would not be ready until 5.30pm. I told her that the mechanic had just seen me, he was taking it for a test drive and it would be 5 minutes. She told me to go and wait. Another member of the customer service staff then arrived waving my keys and saying that my car was ready. I asked whether the work was covered under the warranty, she confirmed it was. I asked her where my car was to which she replied that it was out the back somewhere so go and have a look for it !!! It would seem to be that the customer service staff firstly don't particularly get on well with each other (that's the impression they give), they all ignore customers waiting at the front area for quite some time (they are sitting in a glass fronted office and can see you waiting) and they come across as being quite aggressive in nature. I have a friend who had a similar experience at the Toyota Westover garage next door and she wouldn't recommend them either.

"Couldn’t get much more wrong if they tried"

New car delivered today. With no SD card, no mats which I had paid for and no manual. And they had registered my address wrongly with DVLA. The only thing they got right was the car’s colour and make. Extraordinary incompetence. These people had one thing to do which was to deliver a car with stuff in it. They failed at that. Lamentable. During the buying process, were unable to answer questions about the car so I looked them up myself. Avoid.

"TERRIBLE!!!!!!"

By Karen Butler, 20 June 2017

I went to this garage and they were rude and unhelpful. The services manager should be sacked, he treats people very badly. I was shocked at the way he spoke to me so much that I went to the CEO of Nissan UK and complained about him. They wanted to charge me 7000 pounds plus labour for a broken gearbox. After a personal chat with the CEO they only charged me labour. The CEO also arranged for a courtesy car for a week while it was being done.

So far the car I've bought is lovely and I've got no problems with it, however...... I ordered and paid for a boot load liner -£65!!! - which was meant to come with the car. Been promised it three times now with no show. I have made phone calls, not returned, revisited the garage once when they tried to give me one they had on hand (a used one at that!) that obviously didn't fit. When I agreed to buy the car 6 weeks ago I was told three days to order this part (and as it's actually a Nissan part and they are a Nissan dealer, I believed them). So.... To cut it short - I am still waiting to take my mother and her wheelchair out all because of a terrifically s l o w customer service. Buyer be prepared to wait!! I'll update this when I get it

"Top notch, professional job"

I visited Westover Nissan in Bournemouth earlier this year for my cars annual service and I was not disappointed at all. I opted to have my car collected from my home in the morning as this is an option they have available because I work from home as opposed to going into the dealership and getting a courtesy car. This was ideal for me. The car was returned fully valeted (to my surprise) and I was given the option to review any additional work that needed completing after their inspection via a video link sent to my email which I could view from home which I thought was really clever! I only needed one fresh tyre in addition to the service which was perfectly reasonably priced. I will no doubt go back again!

"Nissan Westover should be avoided at all cost. You would do better if you took your Nissan to the zoo and let the monkeys work on it. "

By PWTRASH, 18 November 2013

Nissan Westover should be avoided at all cost. You would do better if you took your Nissan to the zoo and let the monkeys work on it. My mother had her Nissan Micra automatic 2008 taken to Nissan Westover when it started to run roughly and would not accelerate or change through the gears as it should as this was the dealership she had bought the car from in 2008. She had stopped using them to service the car when the warranties finished due to the silly prices and appalling attitude of some of the service staff. On this occasion she was advised by the AA person who had looked at her car and could not pin down what the problem was to take it to a Nissan dealer to get a diagnostic test done. After the car had been at Westover a few days the service manager phoned and informed my mother of their findings. She was told that they suspected that 2nd gear on the automatic box had failed causing a large amount of swarf contamination, resulting in the clutch overdrive solenoid to short/jam. They then advised a replacement or a strip and rebuild of the gearbox. The price quoted for the replacement was £4,000 plus labour and £3,000 plus labour for the recon. Now my mother knows very little about how cars actually work, but she did have her doubts about this diagnosis seeing that the car had done only 9,000 miles from new and the gearbox shouldn't have failed at such low mileage. My mother pointed out that the costs involved in repairing the car made the car a financial right off as the car would not sell for more than £4,000. So bizarrely they said the could give her a fair price for her car if she were to PX it for a new one. She did point out that according to them the Nissan Micra she had bought from them in 2008 had a gearbox problem at 9,000 miles which had made the car worthless so why would she buy another one from them. To cut a long story short I phoned Nissan Westover and spoke to their service manager about their findings. The person I spoke to was obviously annoyed that we would question their diagnosis of the problems with the car and could barely hide his contempt and disdain for us and also charged £85 for the pleasure. So I advised the service manager that I would pick the car up and take it to The Automatic Transmission Service in Southampton. I left the Micra at the auto transmission garage telling the mechanic of the problems with the car. Before he even looked at the car he said he doubted it was the gearbox causing the problem. After looking at the car and taking it out for a run he called me and told me it was NOT a gearbox problem, it was an engine problem and I should get it looked at by a competent garage. The Automatic Transmission Service did not charge me for looking at it either and he was certainly more pleasant to talk to than the man at Westover. I booked the car into Martins Nissans in Winchester and told the mechanic the problem whilst booking it in, he said it sounded like the oxygen sensor had failed. I left the car with them and within an hour they had phoned me to say that they had done a diagnostic on the car and the fault was the rear oxygen sensor and that they could replace it straight away as they had one in stock. The car was fixed and back on the road in 3 hours, and the cost was £270.70 this included the part which cost £147.00. Certainly a big difference from £3,000 plus to £4,000 plus from Westovers. Westover were totally incompetent and rude at best, or a more sinister conclusion would be that they were taking advantage of my mother. This is our experience of Nissan Westover and with that experience I would advise anyone that asked about them to avoid them.

"Customer service is none existent."

By OneOfManyImSure, 27 February 2013

I could type a long message as to how appalling their customer service is at Westover Nissan or just put in very simple terms. 1. If you like poor service, rude staff, never expect a return call when promised and have no problem dealing with a company that thinks it largely has a monopoly in the Poole-Bournemouth area so you should feel privileged to buy from them: then Westover Group is for you. 2. If however, you simply expect to be treated with a little more than 0% respect considering that you are spending good money with them: then I would avoid. Myself, I fall into group two for the future.

"One of the worst garages ever"

By tangent, 16 November 2012

We visited this garage after having had our car a Nissan Almera MOT'd at Halfords a few days before. We were looking at newer cars and put it in for a service. After the service they said the car shouldn't have been MOT'd. We were shocked. They were clearly only interested in condemning our old car and flogging us a new one. The car is still going strong in November 2012. We will never visit this garage or have anything to do with this group again.

I have used this garage for the last 5 years since purchasing my xtrail, they have been helpful in all dealings and when servicing the car have been happy to collect and deliver even though we are 14+ miles from them. The car is out of warranty and has just had a level1 Westover Nissan service the cost was just over £100 which incuded a courtesy wash and 1 years roadside RAC cover I think thats good value for a main dealer, I would recommend this dealership.
