The ATA (Automotive Technician Accreditation) is a voluntary scheme that proves a technician's competence, giving reassurance to customers as well as raising the professional status and credibility of skilled individuals and their businesses.
It is open to franchised and independent garage technicians and the scheme is backed by all major vehicle manufacturers and independent service and repair organisations, as well as consumer groups. It's governed by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), ATA registered technicians sign and are bound by a special Code of Conduct. They are issued with a photo identity card and their details are included on the ATA web site.
