Must the DVLA send out driving licence renewal reminders?

James Foxall wrote that with driving licence renewal it is the responsibility of the driver to apply. Online I found that DVLA would send a reminder. Can you clarify please?

It is the responsibility of the driver to renew the licence whether the DVLA sends a reminder or not. The DVLA will usually send a reminder out of courtesy, but is not under any legal obligation to.
